Having a solid relationship with your kids when they are older begins with building a relationship with them when they are younger. There are no short cuts to bonding, you just have to put in the time and play with your kids. It’s not always easy, it’s not always fun, and you don’t always feel like doing it. I’m nowhere near perfect at it. Often my wife has to remind me that even though I’m tired when I get home from work my kids have been asking about me all day and desperately want some dad time. Of course, it’s always a little easier when your kids ask you to hit them with pillows–if only I could justify it when they are throwing fits!
